Fly to the western corridor of the Serengeti National Park, one of Africa’s most famous wildlife sanctuaries. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your lodge. Enjoy an afternoon game drive on the Grumeti River circuit before returning to the lodge for late afternoon tea and dinner. Later in the evening, venture out on a night game drive to experience the nocturnal sights and sounds of the Serengeti.

You have the opportunity to explore the Grumeti Corridor on foot, getting closer to nature and the wild. Learn about the flora and fauna and the wide variety of animals that live here. Return to the lodge for a late lunch and some relaxation.

After breakfast you will drive to the Central Serengeti. Your guide will choose the best game viewing spots for the time of year. Spend time at the hippo pool watching these huge animals lazing in the cool water alongside the crocodiles, watch a lion stalking its prey or be amazed by the scale of the great wildebeest migration. The journey takes you from wide open plains to the kopjes, volcanic rock outcrops that provide shelter for a wide variety of animals.

Another chance to explore on foot, this time soaking up the history and atmosphere of Olduvai Gorge, the Cradle of Humankind. One of the most important palaeoanthropological sites in the world, it has proved invaluable in advancing our understanding of early human evolution. This walk takes in the Shifting Sand Dunes, formed by volcanic ash, Ol Karien Gorge, where Ruppel’s Griffon Vultures soar high above, and Nasera Rock, a monolith that offers climbers magnificent views of the surrounding plains.

You will drive a short distance to the Empakaai Crater where you will be treated to stunning views and hopefully catch a glimpse of Ol Doinyo L’Engai, Tanzania’s only active volcano. The descent into the Empakaai Crater takes approximately 30 minutes. There is excellent birdwatching around the lake and buffalo, hyena and elephant can be seen. After 2 to 3 hours of walking at Empakaai, you will return to the vehicle and drive to Olmoti Crater for your final walk of the day. At Olmoti, a Maasai name meaning cooking pot, you will have the chance to see Maasai herders grazing their cattle and take in views of the beautiful highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Today you descend into the heart of the wondrous Ngorongoro Crater. Spend the whole day on the crater floor. Ngorongoro is unique in that almost all the wildlife lives within the crater walls, giving you the opportunity to spot game easily. Rhino in particular can be seen regularly, as well as prides of lion and other predators such as cheetah. Enjoy lunch at the hippo pool and later drive to Karatu for overnight

Tarangire is a sanctuary for an exceptionally large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park. The animals are concentrated along the Tarangire River, which is the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a wide variety of wildlife including lions, leopards, cheetahs and up to six thousand elephants. Enjoy a full game drive in the park with your packed hot lunch.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at camp, followed by a morning game drive. Picnic lunch and return to Arusha. Depart for Arusha (approx 120km, 2 hours).
